The Fifth Gate: A Splendid Ninja is Born!! (Japanese: !, -

the Chunin Exam manga arc. It details the final part of the
Lee vs. Gaara battle.
[edit]
Plot
After Lee opens up the Life Gate, Kakashi believes that Lee
was going to make his move. However, Lee does not, and actually
opens the Fourth gate, the Wound Gate. Lee's speed has increased
tremendously, as well as his muscular force. Lee begins to
hit Gaara with tremendous force many times, wreaking the entire
Armor of Sand. At this stage, Gaara's first defense, the Shield
of Sand, can not possibly keep up with the speed at which
Lee is moving.
Lee kicks Gaara into the air, and begins to assault Gaara
there. Finally, Lee opens the Fifth gate, the Forest Gate.
By now, many of Lee's muscles have torn. Lee kicks Gaara down,
much like the Lion Combo. Lee hopes to smash Gaara into the
ground, and thus either knock out or kill Gaara. However,
Gaara transforms his entire gourd into sand, which protects
Gaara enough that he can still fight.
By now, Lee is critically injured from using the Lotus too
much. Gaara then uses Desert Coffin and Desert Funeral to
destroy Lee's left arm and left leg. Gaara prepares to finish
Lee off, but Guy steps in to intervene, stopping the sand.
Guy remembers how Lee is very much like him, always working
hard, and used to be taunted for his lack of skill. However,
Lee worked night and day, training himself, just like Guy.
Gaara asks why Guy just stopped his attack, and Guy replies
"this is a pupil of mine, of which I love." The
other sand ninja realize that Gaara will probably never understand
those words.
Since Guy stepped in, Gaara is automatically the winner.
Hayate was about to announce this, but Lee suddenly stands
up. Guy starts telling Lee that it is over and he should rest,
and all the ninja are surprised that Lee is still trying to
fight. However, Guy then suddenly realizes that Lee was unconscious,
and was moving purely by muscle reflex.
The Konoha medical team came to get Lee. A doctor tells Guy
that even though they will give Lee the best possible treatment,
most of his bones have broken and his muscles have been torn,
and it is very likely that Lee will never be able to live
as a ninja again.
At the end, Kakashi realizes that Guy allowed Lee to use
Ura Renge to fulfill Lee's deep ambition, and makes up with
Guy.
