Plot
Naruto has performed another Kage Bunshin to attack Neji.
Neji reasons that the real Naruto must be the one that attacks
the least, and runs toward the Naruto that was the farthest
back. Neji hits that Naruto, and a bunch of shadow clones
disappear. However, Naruto had only used that as a distraction,
and he had been attacking full force the whole time.
This gives Naruto the chance that he was looking for, and
together with another clone, attacks Neji. However, Neji uses
Hakkeshou Kaiten (Divine Whirl), which destroys the clone
and knocks Naruto back. Naruto tries again with five clones,
but they are destroyed again by Kaiten.
Neji now begins his attack. Naruto is within his divination
circle, and Neji does Hakke Rokujuyonshou (Divination Field,
64 strikes) and closes all of Naruto's tenketsu.
Naruto still does not give up, even though he cannot use
any chakra. Neji is surprised, and Naruto exclaims that he
does it because he can't understand why Neji did what he did
to Hinata. Since Naruto was so interested, Neji decided to
tell Naruto the fate of the Hyuga Clan.
In the Hyuga Clan, there are two families: the head family
and the branch family. Hinata and her sister Hanabi belong
to the Head Family, while Neji belongs to the branch family.
When Hinata turned three, Neji was inbued with the Cursed
Seal, which is a rare technique passed on to all branch family
members. One day, Neji sees the power of the seal, when Hinata's
father Hiashi activated the seal on Neji's father Hizashi.
Hizashi had tried to kill Hinata, but Hiashi was able to use
the seal to destroy brain cells and also close off the Byakugan's
abilities. This was perfect for the head family to control
the branch family, and for the branch family to protect the
head family.
On the day when Konohagakure and Kumogakure signed their
peace treaty, Hinata was kidnapped. Hiashi had caught up to
the perpetrator, and killed him. The perpetrator was actually
the head ninja of Kumogakure who signed the treaty. Kumogakure
did not recognize the crime, and demanded payment: the body
of Hiashi. To prevent a war, and to protect the secrets of
the Byakugan, Hizashi was sent instead, since Hizashi was
Hiashi's twin brother, and when Hizashi died, the Cursed Seal
sealed off the Byakugan forever and disappeared.
These events caused Neji to believe that people are born
into a preordained fate.
Trivia
The Cursed Seal on Neji was the Indian peace symbol in the
manga; however, since the swatsika is just the reverse, the
anime wanted to avoid any reprimands and changed it to an
x.
The Hakkeshou Kaiten is a jutsu for the Main Family, for Neji
to learn it on his own, proves he is a true genius.
Hanabi Hyuga is supposed to be five years Hinata's junior,
yet in Neji's flaskback in Episode 61, Hiashi is standing
between Hanabi and a three years old Hinata. Both look about
the same height and age. Next, a four year old Neji is shown
with his father, indicating this was nine year ago, two year
before a present seven years old Hanabi's supposed birth.
